Village Plan - Questionnaire Analysis
We asked respondents to tell us what they wanted for their village in the area of health, housing development and services.
The replies were that most of you wanted better access to doctors, dentists and a chemist. Digging deeper into your replies - most people recognised that we will not be able to support new surgeries or shops in the village so the solution may be to provide better access to existing surgeries - maybe through a local centre for collecting prescriptions, maybe through some form of car sharing for access to surgery appointments.
Most respondents wanted to see strict controls exercised on housing developments - limited to small developments and appropriate in-fill.
Virtually every respondent would like to see better control of traffic in the village.
Many would like to see the village "maintained" better - we need to do some more work on this to better understand what the issues are here.
Many would like to see a more frequent bus service.
And - no surprise - most respondents would like to see a pavement access to Stubbs Cross Post Office.
On the thorny subject of street lighting - respondents were divided about equally on this.
We asked respondents to name the "heart" of the village.
The results were 1. The Pub: 2. The Village Hall: 3. The Church.
Asked for likes and dislikes of living in Shadoxhurst - many answers relate to liking the rural atmosphere, the peace and quiet, the convenience of being close to Ashford and the friendly people who live here. The dislikes are the speeding traffic, the fear of future development and poor public transport facilities - particularly if you live away from the Tally Ho Road / Woodchurch Road corridor in places like Nickley Wood or along Hornash lane. Another major dislike was the amount of litter in the village.
All of this information is very useful to us in helping us to focus on developing a village plan and we noticed how similar the issues raised in these responses are to the answers from the earlier Village Wish List. Some of the issues raised in the Village Wish List have ben addressed to some degree but others obviously remain important and unaddressed.
